THIS did it! Have a pair of 24 year old Genie GDOs that are working great. But had progressively worsening function of the in-auto transmitter remotes that connect to the 12 pin fixed code motor units. Button function was getting sketchy and unreliable and unresponsive and/or the range was lessening. I attributed problems to constant use and age and so extended the antennas off the motor units to the wall above the doors. Helped a bit, but was not satisfied with improvement. Started researching equipment to help. Learned about changed use of wavelengths closed to those used for GDO remotes. We are 7 miles from a military base. Seems they are now using overlapping wavelengths for communication installed in the last 10 years. So, this probably explains the diminished range. Nothing was going to help the electronic buttons pooching out. The install was straightforward with detailed instructions. Read them through very well first before connecting the wiring. I have only two complaints. One is that the wiring does NOT have clearly marked 'striped wire' to go with other of pair. Mark these out better with black sharpie before you start. Second is that wiring is not generous; you will have to run straight from motor unit to this new unit, which is placed over garage door. Maybe 3 feet slack, TOTAL, for the two runs you have to make. I would prefer that the included transmitter remotes were not so small or that the three buttons were so close and so indistinct to feel without looking at remote. No height difference between buttons in height and the case. You CANNOT feel the differences between the markings on the three buttons with a bare finger, let alone a gloved hand in the winter. If you have range problems, get this unit. Oh yeah, If you want and it helps you out, do NOT bother to cut off your old antennas or buy a new personnel keypad. IF you are not concerned with security so much as range and other functionality, just keep your current keypad which will still hit your old antenna and use your old auto remotes as INDOOR keypads so you can open the garage doors when you use your remote car engine starter to warm up you vehicle in winter IN MAINE!UPDATE: I have tested range on these two remotes for the last two months and find them to work at 300 feet away and not at 400 feet away. That is super, I think, unless you are using these for a remote gate or long driveway situation.
