Genie GIRUD-1T Universal Dual Conversion Kit

Two months ago when the military installed a new communication's tower it affected many homeowners using the 390 MHz frequency garage door openers. I found that our van's HomeLink and separate remote control would not open up the garage door. I had to get out of the van and hold the remote an inch away from the garage door to get it to open up.I called Genie, and they recommended the GIRUD-1T Universal Dual Frequency Conversion Kit which will operate on 315 MHz or 390 MHz. I installed the separate receiver box 3 feet from the garage door openers original box (towards the front) and programed the remote per instructions. The hand held remote works great on the 315 MHz frequency and will open the door 1/2 block away.I then tried to program the HomeLink button in the van and found that the instructions in the van's manual did not say to put your ignition key in the ACC mode, and that caused a problem so that the HomeLink would not work. After calling Genie and HomeLink and downloading the HomeLink instructions for our model of van, I found that I had to have the ignition key in the ACC mode to program HomeLink. I also found out that the HomeLinks frequency range is 286 to 322 MHz and there is a gap in frequency where nothing will work and then the range of 335 to 418 MHz for the remainder of frequencies. On the new Dual Frequency unit, the two frequencies are 315 MHz or 390 MHz, and you have to move the switch on the side of the remote control to 390 MHz program the HomeLink at 390 MHz.Since I can't use 390 MHz any more, I wanted to program HomeLink at 315 MHz so that it would open the door a 1/2 a block away like before. After programming HomeLink in the 390 MHz, I found that it would open the garage door when I am 4 feet away and that was better than before, but I wanted to have a better range. After calling Genie again they said to move the black dual receiver box closer to the front of the garage door so that the antenna is closer to the front of the door. I moved it a foot away from the door and now have a better range but still not the range that the remote controller has at the 315 MHz. I called HomeLink again, and they said that it can be difficult to program HomeLink on the 315 MHz using the small hand held remote control, and that their larger remote may work better.Since I did not want to buy a large remote controller to test this, I have left the HomeLink programmed at 390 MHz and that is still better than before. I did find that when programming HomeLink with the receiver box moved forward, the garage door is in the down position, and that you need someone in the garage to press the "LEARN," button and have someone in the van to press the HomeLink button to program the code. Many homeowners in our area have now bought the Genie Dual Frequency Receiver and now can open their garage doors with a much better range. We have a commercial "LiftMaster" garage door opener for our RV door and it still works on the 390 MHz at a range of over 6 feet and so we won't need to buy an additional Genie Receiver for this door. Many manufacturer's of garage door opener are now using the 315 MHz frequency, but since both of ours was installed in 1996 we needed to buy the kit for the one garage door opener.

So I am not experienced at all with any electrical wiring, BUT…. I DID it. I have 1987 Stanley garage door opener and it worked thank god. After 1 1/2hr outside, I got to work. Just read instructions that’s all I’ll say lol
