This is a long scarf that will keep you warm. The fabric is woven and felted, rather thin. It's not as soft as a merino wool knit sweater. Felting holds the cut raw edges in place. The ends of the scarf are finished with felt fringes. I'm used to the fact that merino wool feels much softer and may have been treated to make the wool less itchy. It creases, which I didn't expect with wool. The wool seemed crappy to me (recycled wool). However, it is better than the British college shawl, which is also woven from Saxon wool and is traditionally made. I washed the scarf to see if the color would run or shrink. I used cold water, hand wash and Woolite. The watercolor has only darkened a bit and I don't think the color will bleed if washed with lighter colored wool. I hung it on a hanger over the sink to dry and it dried overnight without drying out. So it seems safe to wash it. I would argue with the "feel of cashmere". Cashmere is much softer. I wonder if the highest quality long staple merino wool was used and I wonder what chemical treatments were used to finish it. Although it's a warm scarf it will look nice, I'll only rate it a 3.
