If you spend a lot of time on the water, the investment can be worthwhile. I bought this for my then 2 month old at the beginning of the summer. (I think she was about 12 pounds). We have used it several times over the past few months, in swimming pools, on a boat and canoe and even in a creek. She definitely prefers to be in the water when she needs to use it, but this is by far the best life jacket I've used on a child. It's thinner than the others and I feel the double collar fits her head really well. She still can't sit in it, but we put her on the towels in the canoe! Rschunimagu. I still prefer to be at arm's length but she is now 5 months old and weighs 16 pounds and I'm sure she could turn face up if needed. She can maneuver quite well (unlike others I've tried).
