Overall this is a very good knife block. It will look great in any kitchen it is placed in. But there is (1) a problem. The hole you would stick a chef's knife in is too small. Its dimensions are about 1 9/8 inches. My chef's knife blade is 2 1/8 inches at its widest point. In other words, it doesn't fit completely in the block. I called a few friends and asked them to measure their knives and they are just over 2 inches long. I considered returning it but I have already thrown the box away and my wife really likes the look of the pad. They just have to stick out a little bit from the nest.
