Review on ๐Ÿš— AISIN BTH-001 OEM Timing Belt Tensioner: Efficient and Reliable Automotive Accessory by Kantrel Tunstill

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easiest to do this on a 6 cylinder Accord if you don't change the belt.

My used Accord with 254k engine made a lot of noise when starting for about 5 minutes. A video on YouTube showed that the problem was in this component. So I bought it. I removed the front wheel on the passenger side after securing it. The tensioner is visible to the left of the oil filter. The two 10mm bolts come out fairly easily and then it just pops out from under the plastic timing belt cover. Other reviews I read mentioned an oil leak but mine was dry. I clamped it in a vise and slowly pushed, even putting a cotter pin in the hole to hold the shaft. The old one seems to have been good. The new tensioner has a GADE pull pin that must be removed after installation. Theoretically, you mount it with two 10mm screws, pull out the pin and you're done. If you don't change the timing belt, there is a label (which I used). I used a Teslong Embic camera to make sure the timing belt looked normal through the hole cleared by the tensioner. With over 250,000 miles on it I was nervous about the condition of the belt as this is a bad engine and a bad timing belt means the engine has failed. I then used a dremel to cut a hole in the plastic cover so the grenade pull ring would have an access hole. It's impossible to extract a grenade's pin unless you remove the cover or cut a hole in it. This was pretty easy and I'm sure there are other ways to cut the access hole. You can easily mount the tensioner by loosening the 4 screws on the timing case cover. The cover cannot be completely removed without removing the crankshaft harmonic balancer. The pull pin is quite tight and needs a lot of pulling to pull it out. it's late and I've had a wine or two, so excuse the sentence structure. Just cut a small hole. Then seal the hole well with tape. This work took about 2.5 hours. Maybe you could do it faster. Much luck.
