Review on Inficon Refrigerant Leak Detector Model 705-202-G1: Accurate and Efficient Leak Detection Solution by Victor Jack

No alternative

I have been in the HVAC industry for almost 20 years and have spent thousands of dollars on tools as a transmission technician. Buying better tools for the job instead of cheaper imitations has rewarded me with success and also saved me countless hours of time that could have been wasted if I had tried to settle for inferior tools. On the side, I bought a couple of leak detectors. Trying to find the right one can be frustrating as there is no winner based on reviews. The Inficon version has served me best. This is my favorite detector as its sensitivity is in the "sweet zone". Other brands were too sensitive (Field Piece) or not sensitive enough (Tif). The purpose of the tool is to determine if a leak is present and then pinpoint its location. Sometimes I couldn't get closer than a few feet to a leak without the field instrument shutting down and couldn't determine which part of the HVAC system was leaking, making it impossible to order a replacement part. All I can say is that there was a leak. I know these things have high/low settings, but low settings, even on Inficon, are useless unless the stuff is splattered! Therefore only one setting can really be used and this is where Inficon shines! I received mine in used condition but instead of sending it back I tried it and it works great. You must know how to use these things or you will be disappointed. In some reviews I can say that the "technician" just didn't know what he was doing. The field piece is still used in my tool arsenal. Its sensitivity is useful when looking for leaks in pipes behind walls. So if that's what you're trying to do then Field Piece might be your best bet, but for locating leaks on coils and other internal components the Inficon will serve you well!
