Review on πŸŒ™ Philips Hue Dusk-to-Dawn Outdoor Motion Sensor: Wireless & Easy to Install for Smart Home (Hue Hub Required) by Andrew Kamkoff

The Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor reports "No Response " in the Apple Home App (HomeKit). Is the battery empty? Solved

TL; DR - Make sure your sensor is enabled in the Hue app before attempting to change batteries! I am very satisfied with these outdoor sensors. . I get false motion readings when the sun shines through the trees on one of these in the morning, but overall they're very reliable at controlling the hue of indoor and outdoor lighting. I especially like that I can use the movement of these sensors to trigger HomeKit automation. I just spent an hour figuring out how to open the Hue outdoor motion sensor to change the batteries. The Apple Home app reported "No Response" for the outdoor motion sensor, which is typical when the device is off or the battery is low. I assumed the batteries needed to be replaced. My Hue system is connected to HomeKit, so I rarely open the Hue app. I noticed that the sensor was still glowing red when I held it, so I decided to open the Hue app and try to check the battery level. I found that I had disabled the sensor in the Hue app. MY DECISION. I turned on the sensor in the Hue app and the sensor is working properly again and showing the status in the Apple Home app. Pooh! I want the Home app to show "Disabled" instead of the "No Response" message typical of devices that are powered off or not working. I hope that checking if your Hue motion sensor is enabled in the Hue app saves you some trouble. The sensor has 4 small Phillips batteries on the back. After removing these screws, the back cover appeared to be glued/sealed. I have referred to the original instructions and they have very vague warnings about the battery stating that the battery cannot be charged and the sensor should only be opened to change the batteries BUT the original instructions do not contain any information on how to change the batteries. I suspect the batteries are not meant to be replaced. I can update my review with more details and disassembly if/when the sensor dies.
