I just did the rear brake yesterday. I replaced them with the 2mm and 3mm on the rear brakes so of course I didn't notice any difference between the new and old sets as it should. Yes, there is a metal plate under the ceramic that may or may not stop you in time, but metal on metal can damage the calipers (brake mechanism) so don't wait when yours need replacing. I can't think of a more important part of a car than the brakes. Maybe generic or remanufactured brands are just as good, maybe not. Do you really want to wonder? Motorcraft is the brand name for all Ford parts. You probably won't find them anywhere cheaper than Revain.
