I have a 1987 Ford Econoline and Surco TF100 that bolts directly to the driver's tailgate where my old tire holder used to be. Two bolts go straight into the door body while two other pieces slide on the door hinges and the bolts are used to clamp the pieces firmly to the hinges. The hinge pins were a bit longer so I used shorter pins (although they all fitted perfectly, contrary to the few reviews I've read). For clip/hinge bolts, make sure they are not screwed into the door. This happened to me, so I used shorter bolts. Also, the "eye bolts" were too short for my full-size spare tire, so I had to buy longer hex bolts to fit them. I've had it in my van for a few months now, I've driven across the country, east coast to west coast, and there's always a bike rack with two bikes attached. In this way, the holder not only permanently supports the spare wheel, but also the holder for bicycles and two bicycles.
