I expect the metal to be more durable for what these backpacks are designed for.

Used for the first time on an 8 day trip. On the first day the strap broke right out of the side saddlebag. ... The clasps and D rings are plastic I would have expected metal to have more strength for what these bags are intended for After struggling for 8 days with the plastic clasps of the top packaging I was very disappointed .Obviously I can't return them as they were well used but I would consider that when looking for saddlebags.I will be taking them to a specialty shop for repair now after my initial investment and just backpacking :(.
