Walker Exhaust 44345 Resonator Assembly

For Camry '93 Sedan. Were also bought to match the Walker "intermediate pipe" and silencer. The fit and finish is very good. The flange and bolt holes are sized correctly for Toyota's Kat convection and are perfect for 7/16" brackets, but I believe you can use the smaller M10 bolts as well. (I don't take an M12, and I don't think M11 is commonly available, although M11 would be a better metric size.) Please note that these pipes will RUST INSTANTLY IN THE WEATHER WITHOUT ADDITIONAL PROTECTION, unless the welds and seams are solvent cleaned, sealed with high temp RTV and then painted with high gloss finish. , high-temperature engine paint. I think it goes without saying that the tuned pipe should be welded to the intermediate pipe, but I don't weld. 2-1/4" exhaust pipe clamp so that one end of the clamp's U-bracket rests on the resonator tube and the other end of the clamp rests on the intermediate pipe. The U-shaped portion of the clamp rests on top of the resonator tube. Use a 2- 1/2' 1/2" broken rod. I attached another link in the middle of the joint, probably just for luck as the resonator tube didn't seem to compress. Anyway, this seems to have done the trick. It's been tested pretty rigorously by the state of Pennsylvania, so I'm ready to go. I used regular cheap exhaust pipe clamps which usually broke or bent the u-brackets if over tightened, instead of buying higher quality clamps ($5 each) I reinforced my existing cheap clamps by drilling 2 holes on each side Drilled the clamp mounts for 8-32 bolts and 3 nuts for each bolt (2 bolts, 6 nuts for each bolt). ha (Nuts inside the bracket, 1 outside at the end of the bolt.) Stainless steel bolts and nuts should be three times stronger than normal (rust waste) steel products. These reinforcement bolts act like rods and make cheap mounts very strong. The clamp brackets did not kink or buckle from intentionally over-tightening the clamp nuts. For my next exhaust pipe replacement I'll probably just buy heavier clamps first, but this strengthening strategy proved interesting and worked well. I'm not sure even high quality clamps won't bend. I used stainless steel fasteners including 2 washers for each large bolt. It cost an extra $15 but I think it's worth every penny spent. The cat may need to be replaced in the near future and I don't want to bother removing more frozen rusty bolts. As the Camry is known to last 300,000 miles with good care, this will most likely not be the last exhaust system replacement on this vehicle.
