Bio-environment - small stones of volcanic type, large pea. I use about half a container (250ml, that's about 125ml). I put the stones in a separately purchased pouch that fits my filter. My tank is 15 gallons and my filter runs at 200 gallons per hour (sounds crazy) so rocks get a lot of flow. When I switched to this brand I left my old biomedium in the aquarium for about a week to allow the bacteria to colonize the new medium. My ammonia and nitrite are at zero. I rinse the stone bag about once a week and rub it between my hands to get rid of the algae. The stones don't clog so I didn't have to swap them out for new ones. It takes time to build a bacterial population and it's important to have something in the tank for the little creatures to live. In the photo, I put the eggshell bag on the matrix. (Egg shell increases pH.)
