Helped my crowded tank

Trying to keep a crystal clear goldfish tank was a challenge in my slightly oversaturated tank despite maintaining NO3 and NO2 at high normal levels. I do a complete water change every month and have tried different filter materials and activated carbon based products. I decided to try this in my Tetra HOB filter. I placed the stones in the open spaces of the plastic biofilter. You could see the transparency of the water improving day by day until the water became clear.

I can only say wow.

I have a Fluval c3 filter, I always buy Fluval filters and biocarriers. After some research I decided to swap my cnodes. You don't want to change all the nodes at once, you want to mix some of them with your old ones to get the beneficials. I've been waiting to write a review to see how it compares to fluval knots and all I can say is wow. I used to think my water was clear, but about two hours after the switch it became very clear.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Great bio-environment

I think it's a great bio-environment although it's overpriced considering it's just pumice. You'll never need to replace it, so bite the bullet and just buy one. However, I don't understand why I read reviews that said someone's aquarium water became clear after use? This provides biological filtration rather than mechanical filtration and therefore neutralizes ammonia and nitrite released from fish waste and rotting feed. Sponges, filter mats and filter threads keep the water clean.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Updates available

Great media! Suitable for aquarium water treatment

I bought this product after using 3 or 4 different brands/types of media and this is by far the best. The pebbles are larger than I expected, but the bottle says it never needs to be replaced and it can be rinsed out without depleting the entire bacterial culture. I used MicroBacter 7 to cultivate the medium for two weeks and had absolutely no problems with nitrate or nitrite levels. When it gets dirty I rinse it off with cold tap water and it doesn't seem to mind at all - it still detoxes well

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Empty

Not clogged with algae

Bio-environment - small stones of volcanic type, large pea. I use about half a container (250ml, that's about 125ml). I put the stones in a separately purchased pouch that fits my filter. My tank is 15 gallons and my filter runs at 200 gallons per hour (sounds crazy) so rocks get a lot of flow. When I switched to this brand I left my old biomedium in the aquarium for about a week to allow the bacteria to colonize the new medium. My ammonia and nitrite are at zero. I rinse the stone bag about…

Cons
  • Nothing

Best biocarrier, IMO

Matrix is the best biocarrier, IMO. I use it on my 5 gallon betta tank. Large surface area due to the porous composition (many microscope images on google) and you can pack a lot of it into a small space. The pieces are about the size of a small grape, and after a little rinsing to get rid of the dust, you pop them in the filter and forget about them until service. I have 250ml of Matrix on the back of my Fluval Spec V in a nylon bag under the sponge that came with the tank. I have been cycling

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Expensive pumice stone for aquarium water treatment

These are approx. 10 mm large pieces of pumice stone, a type of volcanic rock that is quarried in the western states of the United States. If you live in these areas it's very cheap, but if you live in the eastern US shipping can be extremely expensive. I use pumice stone on my succulents (I have a very large collection - hundreds). I order it in 3 gallon bags from General Pumice for about $30 - most of that cost is for shipping, which is included in the price. The same 3 gallon bag is about $6

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Useless features

Pumice Biofiltration Base

Seachem is a trusted brand. After many years of having an open (biofiltered) carp pond in California, we had to switch to indoor aquariums in New England. However, I've never given much thought to the filtration systems that come with today's starter tanks. After having an aquarium in my daughter's room for many years (where we regularly monitored the properties of the water), we began making efforts to keep some of the fish alive. I decided to take a closer look at the chemistry of our water…

  • Great Construction
