Review on Cuisinart DCC 450BK Coffeemaker Stainless Steel Carafe by Antonio Cameron

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Robust, simple and reliable; makes good coffee.

Unbreakable stainless steel carafe. I had one of these coffee makers for a long time - at least 10 years - until it finally broke down. It worked so well I bought another to replace it. Cuisinart hasn't changed the design at all except for the improved on/off switch. Keep in mind that it only makes four 5-ounce cups, as clearly stated in the instruction manual. Be careful when inserting the plug. The circuit breaker in the protected socket can be easily switched off with your thumb. If the coffee maker does not turn on, check the socket! The car is so easy to use that my blind 99 year old father can drive it. The pause switch works well when kept clean. If you drop coffee grounds behind the filter, they can block the switch. The cleaning instructions in the owner's manual are precise but not very clear. Wash the carafe, lid and filter basket with warm soapy water after each use. (Ignore the old wives tales that you should never do this.) DO NOT put the carafe or lid in the dishwasher. If you do, the lid will shrink, detach, and leak forever. Only use vinegar to remove limescale, not citric acid. My main complaint is that the burner shuts off too soon and the carafe cools down prematurely. Drink fast! A small disadvantage is that the lifting handle only rotates 90°, which makes cleaning a bit difficult.
