I have a trolley with removable side panels that are secured with cotter pins. My son was about to throw this beautiful machine away! Solution: buy new cotter pins! Now that they are lost I have many additional options to keep them going. The cotter pins themselves are well constructed, they come in a variety of sizes and I think the price was reasonable.
