Honest Sober Review

Update: The manufacturer has not provided requested lightfastness information. That being said, they make a great coloring book. Actually, I prefer them to Polychromos or Prismacolor because of the sheen. The downside is that the pigment will settle and a second coat will be required. They mix well with the fixative without spreading. The Magicfly 72 Color professional oil-based colored pencil set has several advantages and disadvantages. First I wanted to compare them with polychromes by Arteza, Faber Castle and Prismacolor. Holding them against Polychromes would be an unfair game so they went up against Prismacolor Premier (ten dollar target) and Crayola (.98 at Walmart) and then if they outperformed them by a wide margin I would put them against some of the bigger guys place. Did it blow her mind? Yes and no. Attached is a photo of the stratification and blending test I use. I've also included a basic guide so you can compare the results. I would like to apologize for the accuracy of my test. I test for performance. Here's what I found PROS: With the exception of the white quartz pin, these pins are smooth as butter. Their pigment is light. They blend well if you take your time with thin layers - i.e. multiple... layers. Layering is easy unless you've applied too much at once - see cons pencil numbered and named lightfastness rating on tin, but see cons too. Have a piece of 220 grit sandpaper handy, if it builds up too much and builds up quickly, you need to slightly remove the surface portion and then you can proceed. These products can sinter under heavy pressing. Β· Let's talk about the white quartz pen. This pencil only works if you put it down first and then paint over it. Even so, it doesn't stain very well. Β· Prismacolor Premier surpasses it in brightness and Crayola matches it. The problem here is color fastness. The glass has a color fastness chart but no indication of what their symbols mean in years. They also don't give a list online. This is important for any artist who is serious about selling their work. The artist must inform the buyer after how many years the colors will be preserved. I emailed the company and two days ago they said they would give them 24 hours and they would have the information for me. My first email was sent almost a week ago. Overall these pens are pretty good. They are smooth, easy to layer and blend well. Buy yourself a good white oil based pencil and you will have a lot of fun creating. I will update the list when the company provides me with a lightfastness scale.
