First the long underwear set will SIT. BIG TIME! But the fabric will stretch and become very SOFT after washing and drying. My husband is usually a 5ft 8in tall. Bought XL and they fit him perfectly after washing and drying (no clothes). I also bought GREEN Camo Long underwear - also 100% COTTON. So SOFT and snuggly. But when buying because of shrinkage, always order 2 sizes larger. Cotton products are my rule. So if your husband usually wears LARGE, I advise you to buy 2X. It may get long after 2 washes, but will shrink a lot on the 3rd wash to fit perfectly! This way you can get LONG TERM USE from them instead of giving them to a lower body. BTW I use HOT water, I DO NOT babysit my clothes anymore, and it definitely has its perks. :)
