This is excellent because it's timed to give good, consistent results time and time again. It is also open on either side of each slot to accommodate many things other than toast. I don't see any downsides other than the fact that the toaster heats up on the sides compared to other toasters with plastic trim on the side. It even has a built in digital toast timer, reheat and defrost all in one device. I am very happy with it but have no idea how long it will last as I had it not long ago. The whole experience with him so far has been great. As a bachelor I cook potato patches with completely frozen potatoes in it and it works like a champ. :-)
