Just ordered a 3rd kit - myself, my son (USMA West Point Cadet) and my friend's daughter, 3 different generations, 3 different experience levels with embedded systems. Cables (Raspberry Pi connector) and a breadboard T-splitter, and the rest of the kit can be used in development and prototyping of any microcontroller based system. Large variety of sensors and devices, few passive components. Collecting them one by one can cost you almost double if not more. In addition, you get a pretty handy and useful set of source codes for each sensor/device, making it easy for beginners to learn and for advanced users to port to other platforms. Advanced users can modify and optimize the libraries for their specific needs.
