This product looks great and is great for adding an extra Ethernet line without running a second cable or using an Ethernet switch. Place one at each end of the cable, connect two ports on one end to an Ethernet switch/router, and two ports on the other end can be connected to two different devices. Basically, it converts a 1000Mbps cable into two independent 100Mbps cables. Note that you will likely need four additional Ethernet patch cords to make the connections. In my case, the router is in the attic, my new internet service is being deployed indoors, and I only have one ethernet cable going to the attic. because the previous internet service came from the roof. So I bought this device so I can connect the internet to the router's WAN and the LAN to wired devices again, over my existing cabling, a job this splitter does great. A little remark. On these splitters, the ports are numbered in reverse order: port #2 is the standard line for orange/green cables and port #1 is for extended gigabit cables (blue/brown). In other words, if you only connect one of these splitters, port #2 will be "even" and port #1 will be disabled until you connect the other side.
