Heats up quickly (has an adjustable regulator) and the handles stay cool during use. The sides will get hot, so be careful what surface it's resting on when you heat it. I just put a cotton swab under it and I didn't get any burns. It comes with a nice lining and a drawstring pouch, convenient for travel. In fact, I would say this is the best iron I have ever had. I use it to straighten my hair and just curl the ends. I just pin the bangs and side parts. No "dent" or "kink" problems when I do this and some irons are hard to "crimp". It doesn't have a lock to keep it closed, so a hair tie (like those cheap clear plastic ones) at the end makes it easy to fold the bag in and out for storage. The storage bag is not heat resistant, so make sure it's cool before you put it in.
