Why 3 stars? Cost ($70), no instructions, no required items (USB charger and/or cable), no 5GHz support, could be faster. See below for details. This is the adapter required to make your sesame lock work over the internet. (and not just physically around him, via Bluetooth). When I say internet, that includes using the Sesame app outside of your home, as well as voice assistants like Google Assistant, Alexa, IFTTT. The cost of this adapter includes not only the adapter itself, but also the service that this adapter uses. There is no membership fee after purchase. What happens is that this adapter is a bluetooth wifi bridge between the sesame lock (bluetooth) and the sesame servers on the internet (wifi, internet). When you issue lock/unlock commands over Wi-Fi, you first send the command to the Sesame servers, which then forward the commands to the Wi-Fi adapter installed in your home and finally to your lock. Packing: It was a plain cardboard box, eco-friendly, but there is no logo on it, just a sticker identifying it as "Sesame WiFi AP"; can be improved for a better experience. For example, there is no guide on how to set it up. Maybe that could be printed on the packaging to save paper. Device: - Quite small and I'm wondering if it can be built into the lock without requiring an additional (expensive) purchase. The lock itself is already expensive due to its design and the materials used. - 5 GHz is not supported. Only 2.4 GHz is now considered obsolete for newer devices. Wi-Fi 5GHz should have been supported given the cost and also because of the conflict between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. This requires a charger/USB port. It doesn't come with one and it would be nice, especially one that fits this adapter perfectly. I had to find an unused charger in the electronics box to plug it in. Due to the design, plugging it into a USB hub will likely close the ports around it. So you could rethink the design and/or just put a USB charger/cable and/or this adapter in a lock since it's so small. Both the lock and this adapter will flash forever. The castle is very dark and it doesn't bother me. This adapter has an indicator light that flashes slowly, which may bother some users if it is visible. You can use tape to cover it. How to install it: You do it through the Sesame app. You click on the icon at the top left (four dots) and your locks will appear. Now swipe right and you will find a plus sign (+) to add this Wi-Fi adapter. Unintuitive, there's no shortcut that says "Add a WiFi adapter," and you can't add one by going to the blocking settings in the app. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone to confirm you are connected to the lock via Wi-Fi. Usage: - It has worked every time (one month of use so far). - I would like the application to open faster and connect to the lock via Wi-Fi. I don't understand why it takes about 10-15 seconds before you can touch it to lock/unlock the door. This shouldn't take longer than 5 seconds. I waited too long for the app to let me lock/unlock the door. - Forget about unlocking with your voice. It may be a Google requirement (not sure) but you have to set a 6 digit PIN and you have to say it every time you want to unlock. Google can recognize your voice and bypass the PIN. Trust me, you will try a few times and realize that unlocking by voice is not a reality yet. - There is a slight delay when locking/unlocking over Wi-Fi (this adapter); The local Bluetooth connection was more responsive to lock and unlock commands (because it's a direct connection between your phone and the lock). - Can be less useful than you think or very useful when you need to lock/unlock doors. when you are away from your home (for visitors, customers, etc.). Check how much you're actually going to use it because this adapter doesn't come cheap. In my case, Bluetooth covers the vast majority of my needs. Unfortunately too expensive for the functionality. I wish the lock and this adapter (either standalone or built into the lock) could be stocked for no more than $150. I don't remember being notified, but I was surprised to see that my castle's physical location (GPS coordinates) was saved. in the cloud. One day I checked my Sesame dashboard and was surprised to see a map showing where my lock is physically located. Useful if you are a millionaire with tens or hundreds of locks around the world. but for the customer it's a bit aggressive in my opinion. If I get hacked, the hacker will know where I live. It's like writing your address on a bunch of keys.
