The TV saved on accessories and consumables
We had an old Toshiba TV/DVD combo. We upgraded the TV and the old Toshiba almost broke because the remote was lost for years and only worked with a wired remote. I suggested a new remote and put the TV in a room with a treadmill (no outlet but you can put a DVD in). This remote saved the old Toshiba. Worked immediately after putting the batteries in. And we're glad the treadmill has a real screen instead of a tiny phone screen to see what's going on.
