Review on Air Lift 60821 1000 Spring by Robert Worlds

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Did the job I needed.

I have a 2010 Lincoln MKS and the rear springs are weak. I didn't want to change the springs because that would do the same thing again. I did a little research and found that original springs are not designed to last forever. Here's a tip for installing these things. First, make sure you have a hole in the top of the spring that goes through the body of the car. If you don't do this, you will have to pull the spring to drill the hole. I was able to install them at 10°F without removing any of the suspension parts. I didn't even take the tires off. I just lifted the car. To make life a lot easier, remove the covers from the airbags, place them in a pot of water, put that pot on the stove and heat it. DO NOT submerge the nipples on the ends of the air bags. You don't want water getting into them. Once you've heated them (mine was almost boiling with the water), take each one out, place them on the bottom and fold the ends over the middle of the bag. Stand on it with your knee, squeeze out as much air as you can, then cap the stem. put it back in the pot of hot water. Do the same for the second bag. Hot water does 2 things. This will make the bag softer and easier to fold as the bag will also shrink as it cools as there is less air inside. < 15 minutes. The Lincoln MKS has typical Ford camber problems at the rear of the car. The specification says -1° camber. It will eat your rear tires. and the problem gets much worse when the springs soften. The suspension is designed to give more negative camber as the suspension is compressed. I was close to -2.5 degrees rear camber. When I was -1.5° I installed a camber adjustment screw kit. These bolts are aftermarket and available for most Ford/Lincoln vehicles that are experiencing this issue. When the springs softened, the bolts couldn't compensate. The combination of screws and bags allowed me to set the car's rear camber to -0.3°. When I did the cam I told the tech to deflate the bags, then I did the cam and set the cam. bolt to the stop. then add air to the bags to bring them to -0.3. You MUST connect the bags so that they are independent of each other when attempting to fix a sagging rear end.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Good but not great
