Review on πŸ“· Fotasy Nikon F Mount Lens to Nikon Z Mount Adapter: Seamless Compatibility for Nikon Z Mirrorless Cameras (Z5 Z50 Z6 Z7 Z6 II Z7 II) by Robert Farrar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Have fun with old glass; cheap lossless portrait lens with APS sensor

Recently bought a Nikon Z50 APS size sensor; There are a few old M42s (Pentax thread) out there, some of which are over 50 years old. This very well designed adapter lets us play photographers again! Very well built solid metal, well finished. Don't lose or throw away the tiny Allen key in the box; You may need to make sure the lens settings are shown at the top. There may be more detailed instructions. No optics, unlike the M42's Nikon F-mount adapters, so there's no distortion. Good dimensions; focuses on infinity as it should be. Works well with most M42 lenses I have, should be fully manual; fixed not Auto ISO; You just set the shutter speed in the camera. As with older cameras, you manually focus wide open, then stop to adjust exposure. Monitor the rate of change of the histogram as needed. The best results are obtained from the old Pentax SuperTakumar 50mm, which becomes a portrait lens. The problem only exists with the Sun 24-40 Zoom, where the aperture ring is pressed against the back; it binds to an adapter and is difficult to use Cheap fun; There are many M42 lenses out there and some of them are excellent.

Pros
  • Copper mount, strong and durable
Cons
  • Negative impression
