We have a 6.5 liter KitchenAid Stand Mixer and gave this a try as cleaning our regular stand mixer is very detailed and time consuming, especially for small jobs. I've tried chopping the chopper twice, both times with a coarse knife. Once for the cheddar cheese and once for the fries for the pancakes. The shredder did both well. My biggest concern is durability. Like all attachments, it extends beyond the front of the KitchenAid and there's no support against the downward pressure you need to apply to push food into the chopper tube. Be careful when using it or it will break eventually. The rough blade/whistle made quick work of both cheese and potatoes. Because it is placed horizontally with no slope, food tends to get stuck in the tube (see image). For more food, you may need to remove the blade/tube multiple times to remove. The amount I ground was not enough to determine if the new ground feed was able to push the already ground feed forward. This brings with it a second problem. Unlike a traditional food processor, where food is guided by horizontally rotating blades and falls naturally into a closed container, this machine has only one empty opening at the front. I feel like I need almost three hands: one to push the plunger down, one to support the bottom of the chopper assembly so it doesn't break, and a third to hold the bowl around catch anything that falls out from the front. last problem. that it is hand wash only. It's cheap, sure, but stainless steel is pretty cheap these days, and plastics are so advanced that I'd really like it if it was machine washable. I recommend this for ease of use as I described. For a large family with a lot of food, a special food processor is best. BENEFITS - Expands the use of KitchenAid appliances by saving table space - Works quickly - Packaging box allows you to store tools compactly and protected - Easy to use - Quick release mechanism allows you to remove the inner blade/tube from Easy to remove from time to time Time to remove accumulated wood chips. For small jobs faster than installing and then cleaning a dedicated food processor. Easy to hand wash. Brush that also helps CONS - Not machine washable - Concerns about accessory durability with no real support but requires constant downward pressure to work - Horizontal discharge almost requires a third hand to catch food when it's off come of the tube.
