Review on πŸ”§ RAM Mount RAP-274-1U Easy-On/Off Swivel Mount by Troy Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great flat and light/sturdy mount (updated)

I've been using mine on a GPS mountain bike for a few years. Then I put it on my bike to keep the GPS on and rode 30,000 miles of adventure. I then put my newest bike on it and rode 10,000 adventure miles while holding the SPOT beacon. The little protrusions holding it in place broke off one by one. It's very easy to tie the device together, but you lose the rotation. It weighs about 1/5th the weight of a RAM ball. It's also at least 2 inches lower in profile than any RAM mount. To keep the mount firmly on the pole, wrap tape around the mount area. However, remember that if you have an unplanned git, a mount is more likely. to break when it is so securely fastened. You should always tie your device to a tether when it is in a mount. I wouldn't use this mount for something heavy like a Garmin Montana or anything with a cord. Ideal for cell phone, small GPS or especially SPOT Beacon. I'm buying a new one after 5 years of intensive use. I'm pretty happy with that until RAM finds another more durable, low profile, light weight solution. Update: I made my review based on a device that is a few years old. Now I have replaced it with this device which is much better. The new unit has thicker zip ties, a great rubber friction pad (better than my tape solution), and composite construction instead of plastic. I love it when a product manufacturer looks at consumer feedback and fixes bugs. te problems. Ram products are amazing. My rating reaches 5 stars. PS Although they've made it more durable and grippy, I still wouldn't recommend it for larger devices like the Garmin Montana, except maybe for a road bike. It would be great for a radar detector, smartphone, Etrex, headlight etc. TIP: If you have this unit the tiny tabs on the composite latch can break. Make sure to gently push it all the way in before rotating, then gently release to reposition or remove. Composite retainers will not resist torsion if they resist rotation. Try to position the mount and device in a place that will not be subject to pressure if dropped. A slightly loose bracket can protect it in the event of an accident and should be adjusted by hand from time to time.

  • GPS finder and accessories
Cons
  • Great price
