Review on Fiskars 375581-1001 Chopping Axe: 28-Inch Black, Premium Quality by Peter Boisvert

Best all round tool

Bought this for a hike I was going on. I'm into bushcraft and have a house surrounded by woods. I bought it based on some other reviews here and the price is relatively cheap. I needed something I could clip to my bag in the woods, yet be versatile enough to use at home (or in the woods) for felling trees or chopping wood. Ax EASY! I was somewhat disturbed by this fact, as I was splitting logs by hand with a double-edged ax that weighs more than a small child. This thing splits wood like an amulet - better than a much heavier axe. Because it's so light, you have a lot more control and can separate smaller parts more accurately. I must not have read these reviews too carefully because I had no idea the handle was hollow. It's a nice feature, but the ax itself doesn't have a cap on the bottom. I assume it's hollow to keep the weight down and not stow too much stuff in the handle as that would mess up the weight distribution a bit. However, there is a small screw-sized hole on the bottom of the handle where I attached the screw. to the lamb so I can use the space. A hollow handle isn't a great way to store anything other than long, skinny items. I managed to shove an ax and a spare blade for a bow saw, along with a few screws. Once everything was in place, I inserted the screw into the holes and secured it with the wing nut. The only hit I had at that point was the sheath. It's a good scabbard, but the point of my ax seems to catch on my lip or something in the scabbard preventing it from going in easily. It's annoying, but don't deduct a star for that. Everyone should have one!
