Review on High-Speed VDSL2 Ethernet Extender Kit - 1km Network Range πŸ“Ά - Long Range Copper RJ11 Phone Line Extender (110VDSLEXT) by StarTech.com by Edward Perez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for connecting remote sites.

This extension delivers exactly what it promises. My particular situation was that I wanted to connect some IP security cameras about 500 feet from my house, which is above the usual 300 foot limit for Ethernet. I used these extensions to bridge the gap between my home and a POE switch at a remote location that connects 4 cameras to my network. The connection itself is completely transparent to the network. There is no setup required other than making sure the four DIP switches are set correctly (they came out of the box correctly for me) and then just plug and play. When I connected the second device at the distance point, it took 5-10 seconds to connect, but once the connection was established it was reliable and fast with no noticeable lag. My specific application looks something like this: Internet -> Modem -> Router -> StarTech Extender -> 500ft Cat 5e in Conduit -> StarTech Extender -> POE Switch -> IP Camera Extender EASILY handles all four channels at around 4Mbps / With. for everyone (only 16 Mbps) without problems. When I use the camera view app on my phone, they appear within seconds. I'm sure extenders are by no means the bottleneck in terms of speed and latency for this application. It is an ideal device to connect your home network to a remote location such as a barn, detached garage or IP cameras in a remote location. on your property if the distance is more than 300 feet. No comment on how long they last as I'm only a week old but the connection has been 100% reliable during this time. EDIT: It's been in continuous use for a year and a half with 100% uptime.

Pros
  • understandable even to the old
Cons
