At first I thought it was too flexible until I put the license plate in place. Dimples appeared in the bumper of the 2013 Ford Escape. I was going to lower it as there was part of the bumper trim underneath until I put my hand in there was the hanger so it was a bad idea. I chose the original holes. I used two molly butterflies, drilled an appropriately sized hole and moved the bit in a circular motion to enlarge the molly hole a bit. Use a leather or rubber mallet to land the Molly, not a hammer, it's a plastic bumper! For my Escape, do not remove the two rubber knobs at the bottom of the "silicone" frame, you need them for the lower license plate. I used shorter screws instead of the screws provided as I wasn't sure what I was going to hit. Put your hand behind the bumper to keep the butterfly shell from curling up. I used two washers on the screws to attach the license plate.
