Review on Proto Pasta CFP11705 Original Carbon Fiber by Tony York

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best material I have ever printed with

This is my favorite printing filament. I think the other reviews pretty much cover that, but I had to join the crowd. The matte black finish is great. I'm new to 3D printing but I've bought a lot of filament to experiment with, especially the custom filaments like carbon fiber, wood, and bronze filler. I have not yet used a material with a comparable/better surface quality. I printed at 200°C/0.1mm layer height and the carbon fiber structure seems to hide the layer lines on the side of the printed object so you can barely see them, especially on more complex exterior surfaces. And it's really easy to print with, just as easy or easier than other PLAs I've used. The thread is quite fragile, as other reviewers have mentioned, so be careful when downloading - I've had no problems. But stiffness is an aspect of this material - once printed, it's remarkably durable. I printed a 150mm x 50mm x 10mm rod at 60% infill (I've attached a picture of how it's printed) and with all my strength I couldn't even bend it a bit. I also really like the spool itself (looks the same as the product image). Proto pasta in general just has a great sense of style, from the unique materials to the background code on the roll. I've already rewound my first roll, ordered another one, and some more interesting materials from them. In general, I advise everyone to buy. It's definitely worth the price.
