Love this filter. Bought this for a 7 gallon cubic tank for my betta. There was a Fluval Nano, but it was too problematic and noisy. This filter is so quiet that I can't hear it over ambient noise. The river is only for the betta. For fish without a labyrinth organ this would be rather weak, especially at 7 gallons. Many reviews from dissatisfied people with dead fish or snails. This type of filter has been known to catch large, flexible fins such as those found on bettas or fancy goldfish, as well as snail and shrimp barbel. You should put a screen over the entrance if you have an animal that can suck limbs inside. It's also common if you have breeding animals. You can buy a good plastic colander at any craft store for a very low price. Secure it with something non-toxic and metal-free. I wouldn't go smaller than 1mm or it will slow down and wear out the filter. I would give it 5 stars but the folks at Tetra need to fix this.
