Review on 🚲 Allen Sports 2-Bike Hitch Racks: Versatile Solution for 1 1/4 in. and 2 in. Hitch by Gary Newman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Hesitation is real people! But manageable!

Okay, so this thing has good reviews overall, but there's been a lot of talk about wobble - and it's true. I ended up buying it because a lot of people seem to have passed it by. I used the included "wobble free" bolts and nylock nuts but it wobbles. I have a 1.25" hitch and have tried this with a hitch lock pin and anti-wobble screw. There was no difference - everyone rocked HIGH! Also, please understand that all my talk about wobble is about the bike rack. Attachment to the hitch receiver. I do NOT mean rocking the bike on the rack. Stupid to hit the dots as this is EASY to untie with bungee cords. If I can find a reliable way to keep the bike rack from swaying where it enters the hitch, I'll give it a star. After actually using it, it might get 5 stars. For now though, it's rated 3.** *UPDATE** (3 to 5 stars) Okay, now I've used this a few times and I better understand the dynamics of this thing. I chose to use a locking pin instead of a pivot pin for a number of reasons. with key. It also makes it easy to take off when you don't need the carrier on the car. Also, the hitch bolt wobbles the same as the stop bolt. Now let's get to my bikes. On my mountain bike I have a center shock that hits the center bar of the rack when I'm using the innermost ratchet straps. So I attach it to the slots on the outer strap and it works great. I use an elastic cord to keep the front wheel from wobbling, but to keep the bike from wobbling I use a ratchet strap and attach it to the hitch mount. That works great. It doesn't look pretty and it's a bit more work, but it's functional and secure and that's all that matters to me. (see photos of my bikes and them on the rack) My road bike is mounted on an internal mount, but I still use a ratchet strap in addition to the elastic cable. It's probably overkill, but I feel better using it. Also note that the small "notches" holding the bike are rotatable, so it's possible to strap complex bikes, maybe you just need to be creative. Overall I am very happy with this stand. I've attached a video of me riding the bike in the back and moving the handlebars slightly to make the trunk wobble. Like I said, it's perfectly safe, but it's something you'll most likely look into. *I use a small hitch, not a large one that accepts attachments*
