My old laptop had an outdated hard drive and it took 15 minutes to cold boot. After reading a bit on the subject, I found that this Crucial model plugs directly into a laptop. It comes with software (downloadable) for disk cloning etc. I had to get a SATA to USB cable and that's what I did first. an exact cloned copy to a new SSD when attached externally. One step I skipped too quickly was that the new drive is twice the capacity of the old drive and I had to tell the cloning program to make the C:> drive a larger partition instead of allowing the standard to be right there lies where it is copied the boot disk and places the remaining space in a virtual partition of the disk. I ended up having to come back later and fix it. But the process of cloning the drive externally and then inserting it into the laptop went perfectly. All installed programs worked as they should, and now the laptop boots in 15-16 seconds. By the way, this is the cable needed to clone the external SSD I bought from Revain here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S9CKV7X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
