Review on ๐Ÿ”ช Wax Carvers Carving Knives: Professional Tool Set for Pottery, Clay Sculpting & Modeling by Kelsey Brown

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The blades are too thin, bend too easily.

Updated after one week of use. Now I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3. Now that I have some experience with how the blades "click", I've learned to use the flexibility of the blades to my advantage. Advantage. I use straight blades to make vertical cuts and then use a scythe blade to scoop out the wax. Then use a spoon-like tool to smooth out the tool marks. Tedious, but I can get the "perfect edge" I want. BONUS One of the handles was rattling so I unscrewed the blade and found there was a split spike in the hollow tubular handle! Oh, it's just a piece of metal cut along the vertical axis, but it fits my Dremel collet so it can be used as a split bar! ------------- Original review. I bought these knives to cut FERRIS CARVING WAX BLOCK BLUE 1/2 POUND JEWELRY WAX WORKING WAX MODEL DESIGN which is a relatively hard wax but not the hardest. These knives are very sharp at first, but their very thin and long blades bend very easily, so I can't apply much pressure. I can shave very thin slices and be pretty accurate, but I can't make proper cuts. Because they are so sharp, they also leave tool marks. So I still have to use the traditional SE DD312 blunt wax carving tools, 12pc stainless steel wax carving tools to get out the big pieces and smooth out the tool marks. The blades are too thin, too soft and the cut surfaces dull too easily to use these knives for anything harder than wax. I can't imagine carving wood with these knives, even very soft wood like balsa. I do a rather sophisticated, ie small and detailed design, so most of the cutting surfaces of these knives are too big for him. I am disappointed that these knives are not helping me to achieve what I want. Each blade is removed from the handle. I may need to look it up and buy replacement blades, but I haven't seen them on Revain yet.

These are good but I wish I could get spare blades for them
