Problem with Halkey-Roberts adapter (?)

Good news, fairly well made at a good price seems good value for money. But there were many problems with the Halkey-Roberts valve adapter. This is the inflatable valve used in many inflatable kayaks, SUPBs, etc. In my case, it was the Aquagluide Deschutes 110 kayak. When I disconnected the inflation adapter from the kayak, the valve stayed open and I lost most of the air. I repeated this process half a dozen times until (seemingly by accident) the valve closed properly and I was on my way. Of course it's annoying with the SUPB SUPER as it takes a lot of work to get to 15psi. Frustrated with the wasted time and leveling I did some research. I compared the adapter that came with my kayak to the adapter that came with the AE pump. (The Aquaglide (AG) adapter will not fit an AE pump without cutting off the pump tubing.) It seems that not all Halkey-Roberts valves are created equal. There is a crossbar in the center of the adapter that opens the check valve when the adapter is connected to the valve. The crossbar on the AE adapter was 2-3 mm closer to the end of the hose than on the AG adapter. So the AE adapter pushes the valve too far into the open position, allowing it to rotate when the adapter is removed - rotating it to the "open/vent" position, allowing the air to escape. So I used a Dremel tool to cut out the top of the rod to fit the AG adapter and - works great! But what a pain. Not too impressed with the pressure gauge on the unit either. It reads 1psi when not connected to anything, so I have to compensate for that when inflating my boat (which only inflates to 2.5psi).
