samples. I don't want to be mean as it was very cheap compared to many other watercolor papers, so I'm trying to tone down my rating with that in mind. Also, I'm used to the ravages of cold-pressed paper, and this paper is exceedingly ROUGH. I found it almost impossible to draw fine details as the texture distorts the image. Maybe a better artist than me or someone with a lot of experience with rough paper will find this paper suitable. Of course I still have to try to draw on the back of the paper and maybe it will get better. If so, I will edit this review to reflect that. Eventually I'll give it a try (even "non-fine" paper is good for something, so I have no doubt I'll use it for various purposes until it's gone. Don't waste it and all), but i will never order this again. Here are my key takeaways. Painting wet-on-wet causes the paper to warp a lot, but if you're aiming for abstraction, like I did with this tutorial's background, you can play around a bit if you're not too strict with your expectations. If you want some level of detail, an almost dry brush on very dry paper is the only way, and even then, expect some randomness. I didn't really try to soften the edges on this painting (like I should have), but hardening them was too easy. Water just didn't want to cooperate with paper and paint. Also, when I (carefully) removed the tape, the paper was torn and corrections were almost impossible. If the price weren't so low I would give the paper 1 star, mainly because it's a kind of art product that convinces newbies that they have no artistic talent when in fact the paper they're using is sabotaging them. And this is a tragedy that kept me from painting with watercolors for 20 years. I tried it once with cheap materials, it was awful and I never tried it again until a few months ago. I know many people who sincerely believe that they can't draw because of a bad experience when they were young. Materials are really important, even for beginners. I'm not naming names here out of respect for this manufacturer, but there are other pulp watercolor papers in the same price range that perform much better with the water/watercolor paints I use regularly in my sketchbook and have taught me that watercolors can be beautiful , be pleasant and affordable.
