I've been looking for a new placemat for a long, long time - in fact I've been using a simple flower vase for years in search of just the right one. I use it for all the heavy plastic kitchenware I use, not wooden items. The problem with most placemats is that they are narrower at the bottom than at the top, which is useless as many of today's heavy plastic cutlery have a wider base than the middle. Or they are actually not big enough and strong enough to handle 12-14 inch items without tipping over and looking silly. I also wanted the dish rack to be wide enough to hold about a dozen dishes. This item is perfect in every way, meets all my needs and desires in one dish holder. It is very strong, has a solid 5 1/2 inch diameter base, 1/2 inch thick sides, 6 1/2 inch high front and 8 1/2 inch. back high Light bamboo blends in well with the rest of the kitchen I am very happy with my purchase.
