Review on πŸ”Œ Mini PCIe 2-Port SATA III Controller Card with ASM1061 Chipset by AsMedia by Dave Cavazos

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Syba and Intel D525MW

I bought two of these, one in 2013 and the other in 2015 and I will be buying two more. I am using the card in an Intel D525MW motherboard to provide two additional SATA ports. Obviously this motherboard is problematic with mini PCIe cards. Some cards are not recognized, including this Syba. https://communities.intel.com/thread/24326 A workaround for a different SATA controller was provided in the thread above. I contacted Syba USA and received a warranty return of a card, although I believe this product is not at fault. Later I found the post above. The Syba board has the ability to pull pin 7 on the low rail by connecting it to pin 9. There is an unused resistor on the Syba board and I learned how to do board level surface mount rework :-/. On R58, next to the connector strip, place a 100 ohm resistor. This connects GND to pin 7. Then the D525MW board recognizes the card and everything is fine. Not an ideal situation but I think this is an Intel issue not a Syba issue and the good support people at Syba USA told me they would still honor the warranty! It's pretty good customer service hence the 5 stars. Plus, this card comes with a 3-year guarantee, so at this price point, how can you go wrong. YMMV
