Important Graphics Card Information

I would like to start my review by describing a problem I had with this cable. My point is that I've had this issue with other cables as well, but I have other cables that have never had this issue. The problem with this cable is that it doesn't fully fit into the DisplayPort connector on the back of my graphics card. The problem is that the connector isn't long enough because the rear PCI EI/O bracket blocks access to the video outputs on the back of the graphics card. I have some photos and if you look closely you can see that the plastic casing around the DP connector does not allow the cable to be fully inserted. I can't imagine how many people have experienced this problem without knowing that their cable or case is to blame, I think you can tell too. The first time this happened it took me forever to find the problem. It was a different case and cable, so not exactly unusual. I ended up modifying my cable to look like it does in the photos. I did the same thing with a different cable and it worked great after that. So the problem is the black plastic tip just behind the plug tip, it's too close to the end of the plug. I currently have two other DisplayPort cables and another HDMI cable and have had no problems with either and the bracket for my case is in the same location for these outputs. This cable design is a problem. What I did to allow it to go fully in was use my dremmel very carefully to snip off some of the plastic that was blocking it from going in fully. If you do this you have to be very careful not to cut too deep as there is a copper ground just under the plastic which you can easily damage. After cutting off the access blocking plastic I used hot glue to seal it. Since it can easily cause grounding problems when the metal comes in contact with the metal, it's not good. After I changed the cable, it worked as it should. Although with a new cable that costs the same as this cable, this was a nuisance and time consuming. I wanted this cable so I could extend the DP cable for my Rift S. I read in a review that someone had luck with this cable but some others had issues with their Rift S so I went with this one. This is a DisplayPort 1.4 cable. This is currently the highest standard. It's good for 8K 60Hz as well as HDR and G Sync. What worked for me was using an active DP 1.4 repeater along with this cable to extend the DP from my Rift S. Aside from the issue I mentioned, the cable seems to be well made. It's VESA certified, which means it's had to go through tests to ensure it meets or exceeds version 1.4's nominal specs. In order to put it on the box, it must be tested. So with a VESA certified cable, you know you're getting a cable that does what it's designed to do. This cable has latches on each connector to prevent the cable from being pulled out. To be honest, I'd rather not have them on the cable. I've had issues with these locks with other cables in the past where the cables would get stuck in the DisplayPort if they broke. And pulling the cable is the best alternative to the damage that can happen when it's pulled and can't move. So far these locks seem to be pretty decent. I have exceptionally strong hands and have been working with my hands for 20 years. I put a little pressure on the latch and it didn't break, so they should hold up pretty well. The thickness of the cable seems just right, the cable flexes just right, it's not too stiff. This cable comes with a nice velcro strap on each end with the Club3D logo. I really like this little addition. Although sometimes they can get in the way. Due to the issue I am having, I am rating this cable 3 stars. It's a 5 star cable assuming it works and fits right out of the box, but for me it's a 3 star cable for the hassle it caused me.
