We have black metal patio furniture that last fall was not covered as it normally is; Of course it rains in Seattle, it rains, it rains from late fall through May, June and sometimes even through July. This is a grate setting if your furniture is left outside. We bought a can of rust solution and some coarse sandpaper from Amazon; the last two items can be bought at a hardware store, but why would you do that when you can get them cheaper that way and by post? My son (who was supposed to cover the furniture) sanded the rust until it was gone and sprayed it with rust preventative. It rained and the mixture washed away. We bought a second container of anti-corrosion material and this time it was allowed to dry outside for the required 24 hours, after which applying this polish with a rag took less than half an hour. The only precaution is to be careful not to get any of it on your clothes or anything else you don't want to permanently stain. My son threw the used rags in a plastic garbage bag for disposal before he got home. Compared to the cost and hassle of replacing patio furniture, this was a good idea and a great savings.
