These are gorgeous mugs that are great for hot beverages, but the clear glass makes them excellent for layered desserts as well. Compared to ceramic mugs, they much lighter, not as hot to the touch, and don't retain heat as well. That isn't to say that the insulation isn't effective; it absolutely does work to keep hot drinks hotter and cold drinks cooler, just not as well as solid ceramic.That said, the weight is much lower. So if you like to drink big, but want a lighter touch then these are an excellent choice. For my household, the size is perfect. I have my Miele coffeemaker set to brew 8 ounces at a time for 1 16-ounce cup. The size of these mugs is spot on, with just enough room to stir in a bit of honey.The transparent design is great for mixed drinks, like cappuccinos and lattes. It's also fantastic for layered desserts like trifles.The mugs went through the dishwasher and microwave absolutely fine. While the manufacturer says that they're freezer-safe as well, I just don't feel comfortable putting glassware in the freezer, so I can't comment on that.Overall, these are lovely mugs that are especially good for people that prefer large cups of hot beverages. I'd recommend them if you're in the market for large, insulated mugs.
