The pile/pile of this felt material can be a problem for small or young reptiles. My leopard gecko's teeth got stuck while hunting. I tried using heat to pull the fibers together but there was terrible texture. I solved this problem by flipping the mat over to use the smoother side. They are easily trimmed to fit your case. Make sure you measure the inside of your case or subtract the wall thickness to get the right fit. I left 1/8 inch of extra material to ensure it fits snugly with no gaps. They are thicker when it comes to support mats, so don't expect an Exoterra foam backdrop to fit on them without modification. Easy to machine wash but do not tumble dry. Some things will stain it, but that's just aesthetics. I notice some issues with under tank heaters where the material does not absorb or radiate heat well. Must be coupled with secondary storage heater.
