Programming is cumbersome, but a car manufacturer's problem - not these keys

All manufacturers do something like Simon to program the keys. These keys have a built in remote control and transponder programming is always required. So you program them twice. First I programmed the Remote Unlock/Lock (FOB). It worked well. You may have to try several times as the programming in your car may not be the latest version and timing is everything. If it didn't work out, most likely you missed it, or the car's time ran out a bit. Repeat, it might work - it took 3 times for either of these keys to accept the FOB. The instructions for my FJ Cruiser fit perfectly. Both work great as a remote control, but don't expect to start the car until you've programmed the transponder as most 2000+ vehicles require it. The final step is to take your new key to a locksmith to have the transponder programmed. I didn't have to do this. I have been following closely the transponder programming I was looking for for my car. Then I programmed the transponder. This allows the car to start when the ignition is on. This is a completely different sequence than programming the remote functionality. For my 2008 FJ Cruiser I used the following which I was told would only work on 2008 and 2009 FJ Cruisers. (Probably works on all 2008-2009 Toyota? As the programming sequence is the same for Land Cruiser, 4 Runner, Siena.) Has the programming sequence changed in these other years? Here is a 2008-2009 FJ Cruiser transponder programming that worked for the key pair I bought. Remember that your machine is watching you and you have to get it right or start over. Sit on the driver's seat and close the door.2 Insert and remove the working key into the ignition 5 times, leave it in the 5th insert (DO NOT TURN THE KEY and do it quickly within 10 seconds )3. Immediately open and close the driver's door six times.4. Immediately remove the working key from the ignition (please note that the "key" security indicator ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RADIO ON THE INSTRUMENT will illuminate if you do not start over)5. Immediately insert a new unprogrammed key into the ignition switch (note that the 'key' security light will flash approximately once every two seconds)6. If the "key" security light turns off, the key is programmed, remove the key. Do nothing, wait at least 2 minutes. My first time didn't work after 2 minutes. So I did 3 min and it worked. Just get in the car and don't touch anything! You have to keep them inside long enough. Just breath. Don't even lift your butt off the seat, or you'll be sending the seat to activate an airbag interrupt signal to a busy computer and you could ruin everything. get a point? 7. Start the car with the old key (exit programming mode). Yes, you must lock access to programming mode.8. If you have already cut it, start the car with a new remote control key, otherwise try cutting it to see if it works. I cut mine at a good real locksmith first, not a home depot/Lows etc. Cost $5 per key. I hope this helps those of you who have an FJ Cruiser, 4 runner, Land Cruiser etc etc and most importantly I hope it says $50 in there for a key.

Pros
