I was very impressed with the construction of this microphone as well as other reviews. Unfortunately, in all the tests I ran, the audio was just muffled. I was lucky enough to come across a lava with a giant squid, which I think is the best of the budget lavas. Of course, this microphone couldn't keep up. If I hadn't had a GS I might have come to a different conclusion. All I can say is that this lava doesn't provide usable audio for recording. Perhaps it can be used for personal dictation at best, if you're okay with that. But on the downside, there are similarly priced options like Audio Technica's battery-powered mics that can use the sound for recording, so what's the point? My advice is to skip all the lower options altogether and go for the Giant Squid Lav ($50 at Revain right now) or the RØDE smartlav+ with TRS adapter (about $70 together at Revain) if you're looking for good sound . for use in published videos or podcasts.
