The inside diameter (ID) of the "lid" is approximately 9.27 inches and the instant pot outside diameter (OD) advertised as a fitting is approximately 9, 39 inches. So this lid is about 1/8 inch smaller for the pot. For example, I've included a photo of an inverted lid on a saucepan. The outside diameter of the lid is very similar in size to the pan, so the wall thickness of the lid was not considered in this design. I suspect someone found an existing silicone lid that slides over the top of a pot and almost fits. Considering the price of a new mold is quite high, did they just go with this unfortunate choice? It matches one of my metal kitchen bowls. And one of my metal kitchen lids is way better than this one!
