I only bought this because the internal gears on my old brush assembly finally failed after 10 years (before that I didn't know you could or should clean and lube them, oops). However, there was actually a functional upgrade - this thing doesn't tangle hair on the brushes nearly as much as my old brush unit (it had a red body but the new green brushes). I've had it for a few months now and I've never had to clean the brushes myself. I used to have to detangle my hair every 2-3 uses. So that's a big quality of life improvement. All I did was occasionally clean the accumulated dust around the bearings at the ends of the brushes - and even that doesn't seem to build up as quickly as the old design. workhorse is fully in line with modern specials.
