So I use washi tape to block watercolors. It's a bit forgiving if regular duct tape is needed, but I'm here. It is great. Better than expected, really. You want the washi to be strong enough that water doesn't seep under the seam, but not so strong that it rips the paper when you try to lift it. In addition, it should not absorb too much water. This stuff is instant on and off and many of them have a very light, waxy finish (makes them shiny) which really helps with water repellency.
