I was very close to giving this tool a 1 star rating because it comes right out of the box. Luckily I needed a spike finder the same day I received it. Let me explain to make it a little clearer. He came the day I needed him. Well! Insert the supplied battery and switch it on. The screen was lit, no text, no images. Nothing. When the mode selector was used, there was a beep, but the screen remained lit and blank. I was very unhappy. So I went to my local ACE hardware store and bought a spike finder which was a bit more expensive. Brought it home and changed the batteries. and nothing happened! Uh oh I bought some new 9 volt batteries. The spike finder worked great, just as described. I have two spike finders now but if you could make sure your so called new batteries are actually charged that would be a brilliant five star rating. A bad battery led to an additional purchase to find out that the supplied battery was the culprit. solved and such, but it could be a lot better if the included battery was actually charged and working. The battery tester says the battery has about 3% left and I removed the shrink wrap so I know it hasn't been used. Hence 4 stars because your spike finder works great. Great product, just a bad battery. Plus an additional spike finder that is not your product. Want to see another weird review like mine? Make sure your new batteries, which are factory shrink-wrapped, are actually charged.
